Greening My World

Being in nature can be a helpful parenting tool

My dearest Reader,

β€œPlaying together in nature is as much about us as it is about the child. Children get to celebrate and be themselves, while we are reminded of our inner child – the essence of who we are.”

-- Nicolette Sowder

The past few weeks have continued to be a season of growth throughout the garden. Flowers are blooming and you can hear the buzzing hum of the pollinators throughout our suburban backyard.

Some of the seedlings started from seed have been transplanted, giving them enough time in the cooler season to establish themselves before the heat of the summer.

As a parent, being in nature has been so healing for me and has allowed me to come back to myself while balancing the responsibilities of being a primary care pediatrician at work and the responsibilities of motherhood at home.

And science supports the numerous health benefits of nature too.

For our kids, getting outside and nature is an opportunity for them to explore, be curious, get their wiggles out, and even help with their emotional regulation.

😭 Ever struggle with tantrums? Get outside for some fresh air.

πŸ₯¬ Ever struggle with picky eating? Encourage picking straight from the garden.

πŸ“± How about screen time battles? Out the door for that too.

Being a parent is a journey of growth on its own. Let nature help guide you and your family.

What is a parenting challenge that you’ve had? Step outside and see what it does not just for you, but for your little one.

Then hit β€œReply” to this email and let me know what you tried.

Fruit picking! πŸ“

What an awesome way to support a local farm, get outside as a family, and eat healthy.

What is available will depend on what is in seasons based on where you are located.
